Balhousie’s Round-Up Of Some Of 2022’s Biggest Home Trends

Home trends for 2022

It’s the start of a New Year, the perfect time to proceed with any home improvement plans if your living space lacks that much-needed modern kerb appeal.

Before you do anything, are you familiar with current home trends? We only ask as it could be worth piggybacking onto some of them.

Balhousie has conducted the necessary research on your behalf and unearthed everything from key colours for 2022 to the most up-to-the-minute themes so that you can use them, if you like.

Multi-functional spaces

We’ve really had to push our homes to their limits over the last two years, and we’ll be continuing to do so in 2022.

Home offices have been in high demand amongst workers since the pandemic, and 2022 will see householders looking to make their rooms double or even triple up for varying purposes.

For instance, some will install a foldaway desk in a guest room, together with a Peloton so that they can stay fit without going outside, and many conservatories will be designated as a dual conference and entertainment space, rather than only being one or the other.

Grandmillennial space

Everyone has been affected by the pandemic and it’s been tough, something that’s seen us all seek comfort.

Where did you most feel at home as a child? For some, it will have been at their Grandparent’s house, the inspiration for the rise of the Grandmillennial style.

Homeowners in their mid-20’s to late-30’s are filling their homes with items of yesteryear to recreate these cherished memories, such as old black and white photographs, patterned fabrics, vintage China, floral prints etc.

Not quite as cluttered as a Grandparent’s place, it still manages to instil that same heart-warming and joyous atmosphere.

It’s not ‘all-white’ anymore

A largely white colour scheme is hardly likely to get your pulse racing and give you that get up and go that you need at a time like this.

What definitely will do that is Pantone’s 2022 Colour of the Year, “Very Peri”, described as a vibrant, periwinkle blue with rich violet undertones. It’s a colour that you certainly can’t miss, so use it in moderation.

Tones and colours that we associate with nature, including warm brown shades such as chocolate brown and terracotta, will also continue to be well-liked.

You could easily find a leather sofa in this type of shade to install a splash of it inside your living area, for example.
