Can Triple Glazing Kill Off Outdoor Noise From Your Home?

It’s all gone quiet outside because of us being advised to stay at home at the moment, which will come as some relief to you if your house is situated in a noisy city, town or village.

The din that comes from external traffic and loud passers-by can drive you up the wall if it manages to get into your home.

Eventually, everything will return to normal.

If you want fewer headaches once it does, you could always put arrangements in place for the installation of triple glazed windows and doors.

They are reputedly good for reducing noise, which is true, but only when the windows and doors are built to the right specifications.

By that, we mean several things, including that they use the most appropriate glass. Thick glazing is an effective noise-reducer, but it is important that each of three panes of glass have varying thicknesses to make the biggest impact on noise, rather than all having the same thickness.

What else will help them improve noise insulation is if the air gap between the glass panes is large. If you can, you may also want to omit trickle vents from the windows so that there is no passage for noise to travel through.

When it comes to the actual fitting of triple glazed windows and doors, they must be properly sealed – that’s a given when Balhousie is in charge of the installation.

Just beware though that installing triple glazed windows and doors may not solve the problem on their own. Noise may also be creeping through your roof, walls and floors. If you find that to be the case, they will need sorting too to give you a quieter home life.
