Now that the government has given us official confirmation that the lockdown has been extended, we know where we stand and can do more to adjust to home living.
Putting your health first at a time like this is especially important as having a fit mind and body will help you get through it. Doing nothing to sustain a healthy lifestyle at home could have the opposite effect and we don’t want that!
Your home is your safe place and there’s so much you can do to stay mentally and physically strong in there, as we’re about to demonstrate…
Make daily to-do lists and take time to relax
So that you don’t become idle, assign yourself with a few tasks each day that you can complete between the time you wake up and the time you go to bed.
Maybe you have a garden fence that you’ve been meaning to repair for ages or you could do with creating more space in your wardrobes by having a clearout. Getting jobs like these done will make you feel as though you’ve accomplished something.
You need to relax at times too and you will find that talking helps. If you’re missing certain people, get an online group chat organised, which is guaranteed to lift your spirits.
Move from the indoors to the outdoors
There’s only so much time you can spend indoors before it sends you a little stir crazy, so if you have a garden, use it as much as possible.
We all need a bit of vitamin D and fresh air and being able to head out for outdoor exercise once a day won’t get you enough of it.
Get any outdoor space you have set up for having breakfast, lunch and dinner away from the sofa and allow the kids to put all their outdoor toys and games in the garden. If you’re home schooling, classes could be held outside and might make your kids more productive.
Join the baking revolution
Not since the Great British Bake Off first arrived on our screens have so many Brits taken up baking, an activity that’s actually really good for mental health and making you happy.
Even if you’ve never baked a cake in your life, find a simple cake, cookie or crumble recipe you can have a go at, and who knows, you may just discover you have a hidden talent for it.
If you live in a competitive household, you could have your own family Bake Off, with the winner taking the title of ‘Star Baker’. Will you get the baking bragging rights?
Planning some home improvements for when this is all over is also likely to make you happy and feel good inside. Balhousie has a FREE Online Appointment Service available to assist you with this.
We will discover in a few days’ time how the government intends to relax some of the current restrictions, but it’s likely we will all…
It’s a strange time for us all, but you don’t want to let things get in the way of you making future plans, such as…
It’s all gone quiet outside because of us being advised to stay at home at the moment, which will come as some relief to you…
