Our History

Origins

Founded in 1993 by two skilled local tradesmen, Malcolm Sweeney, an experienced glazier, and Drew Hay, a time-served joiner, Balhousie Glazing began with a simple yet ambitious vision: to deliver high-quality glazing and joinery services across Scotland.

In the early days, the company primarily glazed windows and doors for a national housebuilder while taking on occasional replacement window projects. However, their exceptional craftsmanship and commitment to quality quickly built a strong reputation. As demand grew, Balhousie expanded, bringing in two additional joiners to meet the rising workload.

Over the past 33 years, the company has evolved into a trusted name in the industry, now boasting a skilled workforce of 19. Known for expert workmanship, premium products, and outstanding customer care, Balhousie continues to uphold the values that set us apart from the beginning.

Employee Owned

A major milestone came in 2018, when Balhousie transitioned to an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT). This shift gave employees a shared stake in the company, fostering a deep sense of dedication and pride in delivering the best possible service to customers.

In February 2025, Balhousie were honoured with the Which? Trusted Trader of the Month award. A testament to our unwavering commitment to quality, customer satisfaction, and our incredible team.

In March 2026, Balhousie won the Which? Trusted Trader of the Month award. The second time in our history.

Balhousie: Which? Awards

In 2025, we had the privilege of attending the Which? Awards – a true highlight for our team. We were honoured to be the only double glazing company in the UK and one of just two Scottish businesses invited to this year’s event.

For a small company like ours, it was a proud moment to be recognised among so many outstanding names. Attending the Which? Awards reaffirms our ongoing commitment to customer care, product quality, and reliable service. Once again, we’d like to thank our loyal team for their hard work and our customers for trusting us with their home improvements.

In 2025, we had the privilege of attending the Scottish Home Improvement Awards!

While we didn't bring home an award this time, being short-listed for 2 national awards - Best Door Company & Best Window Replacement Company - is something we're incredibly proud of! Here's to carrying that energy forward and continuing to deliver 5-star service across Scotland.
