Low Maintenance – Our bi-folding doors are manufactured from aluminium and as you may know, aluminium is a weather-resistant material. All of our aluminium finishes are also applied using a specific powder-coated method and this helps keep the colour permanently intact without the need for repainting. Your only task in relation to maintenance will be to wipe the aluminium frames now and again and to keep the tracking system free of stones and grit.

Easy Glide System – There is a solid aluminium carriage underneath each door leaf containing four wheels inside a low threshold track. Each of the four wheels is created from a tough nylon material to prevent the possibility of friction and they spin around a toughened stainless steel shaft on its own set of bearings.

Low Level Threshold – We can lower the threshold of the door if you need the simplest possible access to the outdoors.

We can fit a set of bi-folding doors into the smallest of spaces. A two-pane bi-folding door will still give you a good sized opening that either opens inwardly or outwardly – an outward opening is useful if you have very little space indoors. Breaking into a home via a set of bi-folding doors from Balhousie is easier said than done as we incorporate a number of secure components to the design, including a multi-point locking system. Engaging this lock makes it impossible to shift them.

Bi-folds can also be fitted with either double or triple glazed units. When fitting the glass we do it from the inside of the door as it makes the removal of the glazing from the outside of your house as thankless task. The handles on the door include cylinder locks, so there’s little chance of those being broken too.

How you configure your bi-folding door may dictate the type of handles you have affixed to the design. When there is a passenger and integrated French doors, you need a master handle. There is a cylinder lock inside of the master handle that will fully engage with all other component parts when the bi-folds are locked.

Each individual pane of the bi-folding door has a D-handle and intermediate handle. The intermediate handle is there to release the folding panes from the door as it is being opened and to re-engage them when it is being closed. The D-handle can be used for pushing and pulling the folding panes. We have a wide choice of master handles, D-handles and intermediate handles at Balhousie.

It of course needs to be finished in a suitable colour and we have a superb selection of woodgrain finishes for the aluminium frames – Walnut, Rosewood and Oak. Most of our aluminium finishes are applied using a powder-coating process and there’s a reason for that – it helps make sure that the colour never fades away and sustains its look. Want more than one colour? You can have a dual-finished bi-folding door with contrasting colours outside and inside.
