Fascias & Soffits

Although not spoken about often, fascias and soffits play an essential role in protecting homes and properties from the effects of the weather. Without solid, properly installed fascias and soffits, a property's roofline can be left exposed, resulting in costly repairs, dampness, wood rot and drainage issues.

Balhousie understands the importance of soffits & fascias and will work with you to install durable, long-lasting fascias and soffits that not only improve the drainage system on your property, but also look highly attractive so as to give your roofline a seamless, aesthetically pleasing finish.

Contact Balhousie today to find out more about our roofline services.

What are Fascias and Soffits?

Fascias, or fascia boards, are outward facing boards that run under the bottom row of roof tiles. Fascias act as the “backboard” to the guttering and providing a smooth transition between the roofline and the exterior walls.

These outward facing fascia boards can make a huge impact on the look and style of your property and are an essential component within the drainage and guttering system.

Soffits are the under-part of the overhang that covers the gap between the exterior wall and the projecting edge of the roofline. This area of the roof is often called the eaves.

Soffits are installed on the underside of the eaves and together they help rain, snow and ice slide down the roof in a safe way and efficiently remove the excess water into the roofing gutters to keep your roof free from water build up.

The soffit is an essential component in regulating the temperature within a property, allowing your roof to “breathe.” Cool, fresh air flows into the soffit vent, and hot, moist air flows out.

Why install Fascias and Soffits?

Ensuring your fascias and soffits are fitted, installed and maintained to a high standard helps to regulate the temperature within your home and ensures proper ventilation in the roofline. They are also key components in the drainage system and help the roof and gutters effectively remove rain, snow and water build up from your roof.

It’s important not to neglect these essential roofline components if you wish to avoid costly repairs and damaged roofs!

Choose to have Balhousie install durable and attractive-looking fascias and soffits on your property and reap the rewards for many years to come.

FAQs

Roofline products help protect your home from the harsh Scottish weather including issues created like decay and rot. The different types of roof trim include cladding, guttering, downpipes, fascias, soffits and bargeboards. By replacing your external timber roof trim with our quality uPVC Roofline products means you can forget about the endless round of repairing and repainting, as it will never crack, peel or flake.

There are numerous factors involved with costing replacement soffits and fascias, including the amount of scaffolding needed, how much material your home requires and how long the installation will take. This is why we provide a free no obligation quote so that one of our local specialists can discuss your needs and gather the required information to provide you the cost for your new windows.

If you are replacing your fascias and soffits it is worth considering replacing other parts of your roof trim at the same time as it more cost effective.

The term ‘cladding’ refers to prefabricated panels that are attached to the structure of the building. There are three main purposes of cladding; the first being as a long-lasting external wall covering, the second to provide a layer of protection against the elements and additional thermal insulation and lastly to bring an attractive, decorative feature to the exterior of a building.

Fascias are used to create a barrier between the edge of the roof and the outside. A soffit is additional coverage that sits along the edges of your roof and the adjacent walls of a house.

Vents in soffits are not compulsory when updating your roof trim, however, they do offer temperature control benefits during the summertime, by allowing heat to escape when drawing air through the soffits upwards into the roof space.

All our Roofline products are made with uPVC, the great thing about uPVC is that it is durable and long lasting without requiring a huge amount of maintenance and can be wiped down as frequently as you like with a clean cloth and soapy water.
